Only a few hundered remain, of what was once a great and powerful nation. The Lenni Lenape (Original People), or as were historically known, the Delawares, still remain tradional in many respects, however, we have lost many of the qualities which, previously, had gained us the respect of many of our first nation brothers. No one will argue with the fact that the shift into modern living was benefical in many ways to all our people. However, with that, we lost our abilities, to hunt, to fish, to gather, to live in harmony with one another, and with mother nature. Yes, we are more "stable" as a community now, but was the price we had to pay for that worth it?

As of this moment approx. 400 delawares live on the reserve at Moraviantown. And approx. another 600 are members of this nation, but are not permanent residents. Three other delaware reserves exist. Two in Oklahoma, and another near London Ontario, the Munsee Delaware Nation. Residents of Moraviantown live fairly comfortably. We have two service stations on the reserve, and all the other ammenities within a half hours drive(grocery store, movie theatre, fast food, etc.) We have an excellent recreation program, where everyone is close and always welcome to come and play a game of baseball, or volleyball. Residents can always feel safe with our own police service, which employs 3 officers, and a fleet of two cars.
